Where is Tignes?

Its high-altitude location makes it one of the most reliable ski destinations for snow coverage from early winter to late spring.

Where to stay in Tignes?
A great affordable option is UCPA Tignes, available through Action Outdoors. UCPA offers all-inclusive ski packages that cover accommodation, meals, lift passes, equipment rental, and even lessons or guided skiing.
Rooms at UCPA Tignes are simple and functional, with four-person shared rooms and twin rooms, both with bathrooms shared between two rooms. It’s a great choice for social travellers looking to ski on a budget. UCPA Tignes is located within walking distance of the lifts, making it easy to get on the mountain without extra hassle and cost.

Lift Passes in Tignes
Lift passes are one of the main expenses, but there are ways to save money. A Tignes-only pass is more affordable than the full Espace Killy pass, though the Espace Killy pass provides access to over 300km of pistes across Tignes and Val d’Isère. If you book with Action Outdoors, the Espace Killy lift pass is included in your package.
Where to Eat in Tignes
Dining in Tignes can be expensive, but there are ways to save. Opting for self-catering or eating at local bakeries and snack bars can keep costs down. If you’re staying at UCPA Tignes, three buffet meals a day are included, meaning you don’t have to worry about restaurant prices. You can also prepare a packed lunch at breakfast to enjoy on the slopes, helping you avoid expensive mountain restaurants

Getting to Tignes
The closest airports to Tignes are Geneva (170km), Lyon (220km) and Grenoble (210km). Geneva is the most popular option due to the wide range of flights and transfer services available. You can get to Tignes via bus, private transfer, or train. The nearest train station is Bourg-Saint-Maurice, about 30km away, with shuttle buses running to Tignes from there.
If you’re staying at UCPA Tignes, Action Outdoors can arrange shared transfers from Geneva, Lyon, or Grenoble with their partner Ben’s Bus. These transfers usually run on Saturdays and take around 3 hours 30 minutes, though times can vary based on weather and traffic.

Getting Around Tignes
Tignes is a ski-in, ski-out resort, making it easy to get around without needing a car. The resort also has a free shuttle bus running between the different areas of Tignes, including Val Claret, Le Lac, and Les Brévières, and ski lifts connecting different areas, allowing for smooth access to all parts of the resort. Pedestrian-friendly village centres, where most amenities are within walking distance.
Slopes at Tignes
Tignes offers a variety of slopes for all skill levels, from gentle beginner areas to challenging off-piste terrain. Caz was a beginner when we visited and found the slopes perfect for learning, with plenty of gentle runs to build confidence.
