Serre Chevalier

Serre Chevalier is a collection of 13 villages in a beautiful alpine valley nestled within the Serre Chevalier mountain range. The resort is on the doorstep of the Ecrins National park and benifits from superb vistas from pretty much everywhere you go. The ski area is one of the largest in Europe, is easily accessible from all of the villages and includes some truly world class skiing. Serre Chevalier is known for its enviable sunshine record with an amazing 300 days of sunshine per year. The resort is not famous for its nightlife but more than makes up for it with its friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Ski Area

Serre Chevalier is a superb ski area with over 250km of piste served by 68 lifts. It is not the highest resort but it has many north facing slopes that hold the snow and stay in good condition throughout the season. There is a good variety of skiing on offer for all abilities with an easy piste descending from every lift enabling groups of all abilities, including beginners, to roam the mountainside together. For intermediate/advanced skiers and boarders, there are plenty of blue and red runs to descend and an excellent selection of off piste terrain to explore. Serre Chevalier is known as the most snowboard friendly resort in Europe and the natural terrain is an excellent playground for the experienced rider.

Town Centre

The UCPA centre in Serre Chevalier is located in the village of Villenvue which is the largest and most lively of the villages. It has excellent lift access and acts as the main hub for the area. Villenvue is purpose built but has been designed in a tasteful and traditional manner. For those seeking alpine charm the local bus service will efficiently take you up and down the valley where you can visit historic sites. Many of the villages are still very small and have retained much of their original character. The highlight is the historical town of Briancon which has recently been declared a world heritage site. Serre Chevalier is not known for its nightlife although Villenvue has a reasonable selection of bars and a pleasant rather than manic après ski scene.

UCPA Serre Chevalier

The UCPA centre in Serre Chevalier is located at the foot of the piste in the main village of Villeneuve. You can ski straight from the centre in the morning and straight back to it in the evening, Villeneuve is also the ideal location from which to explore the valley with the best lift access and a good bus service. The centre is one of nicest UCPA centres in a modern building with a fantastic sun deck overlooking the slopes and a outdoor heated pool! All the usual UCPA services are present ski room, wifi, dining room
plenty of social areas and seating plus a lovely bar for après ski drinks.

  • No matter how hard you try, when you book everything separately (especially with the Euro and price of food at the moment), you will never beat UCPA.

  • Lunch and dinner were epic. Buffet style with delicious and varied options each day and night. Not cheap foods either - Full roast chickens, ribs, roast beef, etc. Unreal!

  • The quality of the equipment is second to none and the ability to easily swap things over if they’re not quite right is so useful.

  • The food provided was up to a very good standard for all meals with a soup starter available every dinner followed by two or three hot meal choices, a salad bar and a variety of tasty deserts and fruit.

  • Action Outdoors set up a personal group page and as a group leader, I did’t have to worry about taking everyone’s payments. Each group member is responsible to pay their own way through the group page directly to Action Outdoors. Win!

Serre Chevalier | Ski Full Time Instruction

I went to Serre Chevalier in February. The centre was good, pleasant bar area and reasonably sized double rooms. The instructors weekly jump show into the swimming pool was a highlight.

Serre Chevalier | Ski Full Time

My last trip to UCPA was back in March to Serre Chevalier. It was not easy to get there and the travel turned out to be more expensive compared to the resorts where transfer is from Geneva, but it was worth it in the end.

Serre Chevalier | Snowboard Off Piste

I visited Serre Chavalier for a  UCPA Off Piste Snowboarding holiday in January of this year (13th-20th).

♪ It's fun to stay at the U-C-P-A! ♪ – and you know what, it really is! From the moment you arrive, you’re made to feel welcome and comfortable. The staff are friendly, helpful and fun, the food is tasty, varied and plentiful and the rooms are well laid out, clean and warm. The resort is located right at the bottom of the slopes main lift which is hugely convenient. You are only a short walk from a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. The instructors are highly qualified and great at their jobs. They adapt well to the ability of the group and motivate everyone to reach the next level. The evening entertainment was great. There were different activities each night included a stunt show that won’t be forgotten – I won’t spoil the surprise. You may think that the all-inclusive holidays available through Action Outdoors are too good to be true but honestly, nothing is compromised on an Action Outdoors UCPA trip: they are well organised, good value and most of all, hugely enjoyable. I would definitely recommend an Action Outdoors UCPA trip to anyone considering a winter sports holiday and if you’ve been on one before then you’ll need no convincing to return. UCPA – Utterly Cracking Pretty Awesome.

Serre Chevalier | Ski Full Time

This is the 3rd time I am going to UCPA - the first two times was at Argentiere which this year was closed for renovation. Serre Chevalier is a beautiful resort. The UCPA building is minutes away from the piste. It's sunny and beautiful. The staff there are quite uncooperative towards nonsmokers. Everybody is allowed to smoke on the balconies so it is very unpleasant in that way. People are also allowed to smoke in the groups which I found also quite off putting. ;) On a positive note - the ski instructor George is a gem. Really good teacher. The town is lovely, many sweet places to go visit - there is a lovely old town part. If they were to sort out the smoking it would be a magnificent ski experience.;) Best to take advice and book transfer with Action Outdoors - takes the hassle out of the experience. I had booked with them and it was cheaper than the price some had paid organizing it by themselves.
