Adventurous Training?

We are here to make your exped as smooth and simple as possible!

UCPA/Action Outdoors Military & UOTC Programme

The French National Outdoor organisation, UCPA, was set up to provide young people the opportunity to experience adventurous activities. They are therefore very supportive of military adventurous training and provide a fantastic package designed especially for expeditions. Everything is included in the price and on site: accommodation, full board, lift pass, equipment hire

Action Outdoors provides the easiest way to organise a week's adventurous training. As we facilitiate around 2000 military & UOTC personnel each season to attend UCPA centres for their ski expeds, we understand the process you need to go through to authorise your expedition and will do our upmost to make sure that it is as hassle free as possible.

Expedition Planning

The various stages required when organising an expedition are explained through the links above and the information below including:

  • Deciding on accommodation, dates and numbers
  • Determining method of travel
  • Finding instructors
  • Arranging finances

UCPA vs Self Catering accommodation

  • UCPA: it’s not self-catered, but it is accepted as a venue for adventure training.
  • No additional costs
  • No extra time for shopping/prepping/food admin
  • No extra vehicles required for shopping trips
  • All-you-can-eat buffet meals – great for big eaters!
  • Everyone gets a proper bed - no fold-out sofa beds!
  • The whole group can eat and meet together in one place
  • Large meeting/briefing areas are available
  • Groups of 30+ get a free UCPA instructor
  • All UCPA instructors are on site and available to help with information, regardless of group size
  • UCPA welcome the military, having worked with them for a number of years
  • Everything is on site (equipment hire, restaurant, bar)
  • We can separate costs on your invoice/receipts to match your requirements
  • We can help guide you through the process

Rooms are multishare (generally 4-6 bed rooms) - but everyone has their own bed and cupboard space (rather than being squeezed onto tiny sofa beds, which are normally found in the 4 (6) bed apartments common in ski resort accommodation.

Everything is on site (ski shop, restaurant, lecture rooms, bar) making the administration very simple.

Food is eaten in the restaurants/dining areas, where there is a large buffet selection and plenty available. By eating together, you can be assured that everyone is having 3 meals a day and you don't need to worry about admin runs to the local supermarket for food. Breakfast tends to be cereals, breads and jams. Lunches can be either hot or packed lunch (depending on resort and/or requirements). For the evening meal, there are a variety of hot dishes to choose from as well pasta or rice dishes, salads and then deserts and cheese.

Your CILOR allowance can be deducted from the price of the week and a separate invoice provided for food supplies, as required.

Alongside your booking at the UCPA centre, we can arrange transport for your group, if required. We can book coach travel from the UK direct to resort with our partner company Snow Express, either with individual seats on the scheduled coach service that leaves from London, or with a private hire coach that picks you up from your barracks/university. Alternatively, you can take advantage of group rates with low cost airlines and book direct for your group and we can then help organise transfers from the airport to resort, if required.

Or, you may prefer to arrange your own transport or take your own vehicles. Some centres have their own car parks (sometimes with a small charge), or there is usually a public car park within a short distance from the centre.

SF1 equipment is included as part of the per person price. This includes the on piste skis, boots and poles (helmets can be hired as an extra). There is also SF2 touring equipment available at some centres (when booked in advance), which you can add on with a supplement.

You will be taking your own instructors, but if you have a group of 30 or more, you will have a free UCPA instructor who can offer advice on the best areas to take groups to given the conditions. They can also help offer advice to your own instructors, where required. Or, with advanced authorisation, they can instruct within your ratios.

If you can't find enough instructors to take with you, we can arrange extra UCPA instructors for you (where available), who can also be authorised to instruct within your ratios - just contact us for quotes and availability.
