Family Ski Instruction

There are 2 packages to pick from for the UCPA family ski holidays. The first includes 12 hours instruction and is available for adults and children aged 7 and over. The instructors are qualified under the French system which is generally considered to be the most difficult system to qualify through, therefore you can be assured you will be learning from the best. The lessons will be broken down into 4 or 5 morning or afternoon sessions throughout the week (usually 1 session per day, except for Wednesday). This is the perfect amount to learn and improve without being too much for children. The UCPA will schedule the lessons so that the children and parents will be in instruction at the same time, so no need to worry about child care. Whether you are a complete beginner or a very experienced skier we always recommend attending the instruction. The levels range from beginner to expert level with the more advanced groups using the instructor’s local knowledge to find the best conditions and best descents – not like your average ‘ski school’!

No Instruction package

The second package available for the family weeks is an ‘accommodation only’ package. This package for children under 7 years of age and adults that don’t intend on skiing. The package includes accommodation and meals but excludes equipment hire, lift pass and ski instruction. The price is discounted to represent the smaller package.

Off Piste Ski

An off piste ski option is available for young people and adults aged 14 and over at some resorts/dates at an extra cost. This is a guided course, not instructed, therefore is only suitable for very advanced or expert level skiers with previous off piste experience. However, this course does require a minimum of 10 people it to run and if there aren't enough people signed up for the off piste course, regular instruction/guiding will be offered instead. Please contact the office if you are interested in this option.

Adult snowboard equipment is available as part of the package, however there is no instruction available. Unfortunately there is no snowboard equipment or instruction available for children.

Under 7s

UCPA regret that they are unable to offer a ski package for children aged under 7 years old. Children of this age require special equipment, facilities and a smaller child to instructor ratio which UCPA can’t provide. If you have children under the age of 7 and you would like to introduce them to skiing we highly recommend the ‘Piou Piou’ club run by the French ski school ESF (see below for more information). They have fantastic facilities for young children including a purpose built playground where they can play and learn in a safe environment. The instructors are specially trained to work with this age group therefore have lots of fun ideas to introduce them to skiing. No lift pass is required for young children in the ’Piou Piou’ club.  If your child is under 7 but has already began to ski the ESF does have ski groups for children of this age. The ESF lesson times usually do not match UCPA times therefore we strongly advise you travel with 2 adults so you can stagger your lesson times to allow you to drop off or collect your little ones without missing your lesson. You must book your child’s place directly with ESF.

Under 3s

UCPA do not charge for children under the age of 3 (although there is a small booking charge). You will however be required to bring your own travel cot, high chair and baby stuff with you, this will not be provided by UCPA. They do not cater for children so will not have any spares if any items are forgotten. Resorts will have limited shops however neighboring towns and cities will have shops where items can be purchased (Geneva, Briancon, Grenoble) if you have access to a car.

Please be aware the UCPA does not provide child care as part of the package. UCPA lessons are planned to ensure parents and children have lessons at the same time. However, if you are opting for private instruction or guiding you will have to ensure there is an adult in your party available to take care of your child/children. Child care may be available through private nanny services in resort however this would have to be arranged directly. Expect to pay around €100 half day and €200 full day.
