Flaine Altair - Group Accommodation

Looking to book a group holiday? Click here for more information.

Flaine is a convenient little resort set in the heart of the beautiful Grand Massif ski area just 70km from Geneva. It’s modern architecture often divides opinion and certainly doesn’t qualify as ‘alpine charm’ but whatever Flaine Altair lacks in looks it makes up for in efficiency. Being purpose built it is well laid out with excellent lift access. The skiing is superb and from Flaine Altair you can access one of the largest ski areas in France, the Grand Massif. It’s not the liveliest or the prettiest resort but with unrivalled access, one of the nicest UCPA centres and great skiing it’s still well worth a visit.

The UCPA Centre

The UCPA centre in Flaine Altair is modern and comfortable with good access to the slopes. All the usual UCPA services are on offer including a restaurant, bar, ski room and terrace.

Ski Area

The skiing in Flaine Altair has a nice variety with 140km of piste in the Flaine Altair area alone and a total of 265km if you take the whole Grand Massif into account. Flaine Altair has an excellent reputation for snow cover with North West facing slopes largely above 2000m and an above average annual snowfall. The main bowl at Flaine Altair is particularly good at retaining snow and often stays in good condition long after the last snowfall. There is a great selection of pistes including a dedicated beginner area and a huge number of blue and red runs for intermediates. For expert skiers a good variety of high quality off piste should be enough to entertain.

Town Centre

The resort of Flaine Altair is just 200m down the hill from the main village of Flaine. The main village of Flaine is split into three levels, each with their own cafes shops and bars. Flaine Altair is a car free resort and getting around is easy by foot making use of the lifts in resort.  Purpose built in the 1960’s it was meant to be an architectural masterpiece of the Bauhaus style which matches its surroundings, while it has its admirers the general consensus is less favourable. Flaine Altair is still a great resort to visit and being just a short transfer away from Geneva it is also a very convenient resort to visit. For a more traditional and picturesque alpine village day trips to the neighbouring villages of the Grand Massif are very easy through the impressive ski network.
