Levels and skills taught

Touring - confirmé (intermediate)

You are confident off piste in all snow conditions. You are physically fit and capable to walk with speed uphill for 45 minutes without a stop.

Personal Skill & Technique

Developing your skiing skills onto ski touring platforms learning how to move with ease and control on varying degrees of slopes and snow conditions.

Mountain Skills

This is all about being safe on the mountains. How to read snow conditions, assess avalanche risks, how to navigate, make sense of the weather forecasts and what they mean to skiers. You’ll spend time practicing with transceivers, to ensure that if the worst happens you have the skills to deal with it.

For many people the best thing about UCPA courses is the local knowledge of the instructor. He or she knows the ski area intimately and will always be able to find you the best conditions. You will be very off piste – expect to be deep within the mountains with no other people in sight.

Ski touring courses are run by a qualified High Mountain Guide, allowing the group to ski on glaciated terrain. All UCPA Ski Guides are also fully qualified Ski Instructors.

Touring boots, skis, poles, skins, ARVA, probe and shovel

The UCPA Ski store is equipped with the latest models of the best professional brands with Rossignol being the official sponsor for their skis. Our staff are trained to select and fit the ski’s according to the type of skiing that you will be doing and they don’t charge for an upgrade service. Our skis can all be classed as the gold standard!

UCPA appreciate that each manufacturer offers a slightly different boot fit and that everyone’s feet are different. Therefore the ski store has a huge range available enabling you to find a pair that will be comfy for the type of skiing you will be doing.

The avalanche equipment provided will be explained plus there will be a short session confirming that everyone in your group is confident to use it. Although you may have been taught in the past, it is always good practice to perform a quick search plus comforting to know that your group would be in a position to help you if things did go wrong.

Half of the ski equipment is replaced each year meaning that everything is up to date and in good working order. There is a ski repair shop on site though enabling any problems can be dealt with immediately.

Personal clothing is not provided.
