La Plagne
La Plagne is not as well known as some of the other ski areas in France but with its picturesque villages, superb piste network and modern lifts its becoming increasingly popular. The resort is made up of 11 different villages in the Tarantaise region of France, each with their own look at feel from the efficient and purpose built centre to the traditional and picturesque outlying villages. La Plagne is not the most lively of resorts, its nightlife is pretty minimal in comparison to some other resorts but for a more relaxing ski holiday it is well worth considering.
Ski Area
The La Plagne ski area offers 225km of piste served by 109 lifts with a nice variety of skiing. With most of the skiing above 2000m and on mainly north facing slopes the conditions tend to be good throughout the season and it is regarded as a snowsure resort. The lift system is very modern with continual investment in new lifts keeping queues to a minimum. The pistes are biased towards the beginner to intermediate skier with an excellent selection of wide blues and fun reds. There are some good black runs but less than in other resorts. The off piste is superb but hard to find the renowned descents - our off piste courses are the best way of exploring the La Plagne backcountry.
Town Centre
Each of the La Plagne villages have a slightly different look and feel. La Plagne centre acts as a hub for the resort with the main lifts accessed here and a good range of shops and services. It is purpose built and not the most attractive village but well designed and a pleasant place to stay. The surrounding villages are often very picturesque and traditional with minimal development. All villages are easily accessible by free local bus or you can ski between them. The nightlife is not wild but there are of course some great little après ski spots if you look in the right places.
UCPA Centre
The La Plagne UCPA is ideally located right above a piste and is in a perfect position a few metres from the main lift station in the middle of La Plagne centre with easy access to the bars, shops and services. The centre has been recently renovated and is now one of the most luxurious UCPA centres receiving their top comfort rating. The rooms are a mixture of four person and twin rooms which are all ensuite. All the usual UCPA services are to be found onsite with an excellent bar, a panoramic dining room and even a small nightclub to show off your dance moves in.
