Argentiere is a small village located 10 minutes up the valley from Chamonix and sharing the same five ski areas. The village has a more personal and friendly feel than its world famous neighbour and is a popular hangout among the more serious skiers. The Mont Blanc Massif provides a stunning backdrop to the valley with some of the most striking alpine scenery to be found anywhere in the world. If you would like to ski the Chamonix valley but enjoy a smaller village atmosphere then Argentiere is the resort for you!
Argentiere accesses the same five ski areas which have made Chamonix a world famous destination. The skiing is varied and vast although definitely biased in favour of the advanced skier. There are some easier slopes but it is generally considered a difficult place to learn. The off piste/backcountry skiing is what makes the Chamonix valley so special. The depth and variety of lift accessed high mountain and back country terrain is outstanding including Europe's longest off piste run, the Valle Blanche, and the infamous Grant Montets ski area.
The village or Argentiere is much smaller than Chamonix with a wonderfully friendly and local atmosphere which many people in fact prefer. Whilst it may not have quite as many bars as Chamonix, the bars it does have are very lively and offer some of the best après ski in the valley. Argentiere has a small selection of shops, cafes and bakeries and for those wanting a bit more Chamonix is just a short bus ride away.
Argentiere UCPA is on the high street, metres from the village bars, bakery’s and shops. The historic Victorian building was completely refurbished in 2013 and now offers fantastic 3 star accommodation. Inside there is the equipment room, drying rooms, large restaurant and plenty of social space to relax in as well as the bar and more livelier areas to enjoy the après party.
