Situated inland from the Mediterranean coastal ports of Nice and Marseille, the Verdon River cuts hundreds of metres deep into a limestone gorge creating a natural playground and mecca for outdoor enthusiasts - climbers, white water kayakers, walkers, riders plus those that enjoy the adrenaline of canyoning, zip wires and via ferrata’s. It is often considered the most beautiful Gorge in Europe and has been designated a Regional Park due to this.
The sleepy and historic town of La Palud sur Verdon is where climbers tend to converge due to the range of accommodation options available. Rough camping is strictly forbidden in the park which means that people congregate here bringing the bars alive in the evening with talk of mighty ventures and exposure.
The UCPA is centrally located within the town and offers a style of accommodation that can best be described as a climbers lodge – clean, simple and welcoming with meals served on a sun trapped terrace and a huge garden criss-crossed with slack lines and hammocks. It is located next to a fantastic café so an après drink is inevitably on the cards too. No matter which activity you take part in you will leave feeling relaxed possibly due to the surrounding lavender fields or the French way of life!
