Action Outdoors Sailing Tours

Join us on board the sailing yacht Nina Soraya for a true adventure. Whether you are a seasoned sailor wanting to learn more about adventure sailing, or are completely new to the sport then you are welcome to join us.

Nina Soraya is a purpose built expedition yacht. With the previous owner she has sailed to the Antarctic and the Action Outdoors team took her to Iceland & Greenland summer 2016. She is a very robustly built aluminium sailing ketch, 17 metres (57 feet) long with accommodation for up to 10. She isn’t “luxury” in yachting terms, but has excellent level of comfort plus systems for remote cruising. Most often we cruise with 6 -8  on board to maximise space and make sure everyone is able to join in all the sailing & activities. Of course she is fully MCA coded for commercial use, class 2, and greatly exceeds the safety requirements for that.

When on board, you are part of the crew, and are expected to join in with all aspects of life. That means taking a share of sailing duties, with of course plenty of instruction available for less experienced sailors. Everyone also take a share of cooking and cleaning, imaginative chefs are always welcome !

We try to us the boat as a route to adventure – that means we do lots of exploring ashore, hiking, climbing and biking, as well as enjoying the sea and the nature. By it’s very nature the itinerary is flexible – according to conditions, weather, crew and opportunity.

The Adventures

Summer 2017 we will be sailing Nina Soraya from her home port in Ipswich, up the east coast to Inverness. The we will traverse the Caledonian Canal to access the amazing West Coast of Scotland. We’re going to spend some weeks cruising the inner and outer Hebrides with it’s huge number of secluded anchorages. Towards the end of the summer we’ll sail back down through the Irish sea, around Devon & Cornwall and back to the east coast.

Mile Builder

This is really suitable for people who have done some sailing before and want to increase their experience. Expect to be sailing overnight passages, keeping a watch pattern and learning more about passage making. Nina Soraya is easily capable of 200 mile days, so we do eat up the miles quite quickly. The focus will be to get the boat from A to B, of course dependent upon conditions. Before booking this trip please contact David to talk through your experience.

Sailing Week

These weeks are suitable for all levels, even complete beginners to sailing. Typically we’ll sail 3-6 hours per day, allowing lots of time for on land exploration and general relaxation. There’s plenty time to learn all about sailing, life on a boat and have a highly memorable week.

About the package

The individuality of each sailing tour means that no two trips or packages are the same. However, in general each expedition price will be inclusive of accommodation, meals, guiding and all specific activity and support costs. Travel must be arranged by the individual and will not be included in the package. For the full package details please read the individual Adventure Descriptions on the Dates & Price page.

  • The food is PHENOMENAL at UCPA – brilliant for those with eyes bigger than their belly.

  • Action Outdoors set up a personal group page and as a group leader, I did’t have to worry about taking everyone’s payments. Each group member is responsible to pay their own way through the group page directly to Action Outdoors. Win!

  • UCPA is a unique and brilliant experience, I would not describe it as a hotel but also not hostel it is somewhere in-between. Its a place where meeting people and making friends...
    Peter E
  • The food provided was up to a very good standard for all meals with a soup starter available every dinner followed by two or three hot meal choices, a salad bar and a variety of tasty deserts and fruit.
    Richard J
  • Describing the UCPA is difficult. Not because there is a lack of adjectives to adequately convey the amount of fun you’ll have while you are there, the friendliness of the instructors, the quality of the food...
    Mark D
  • Imagine moules mariniereier, steak (cooked how you like it) and paella just to name a few options during our week and you get a picture of how well fed you will be at UCPA.

  • One click and you’ve booked everything. No searching around for lessons, ski-hire etc. And the best thing is you can keep adding people to your group.

  • The food offers great variety, choice (several options each night), quantity (as much as you want) and quality is decent.  Cheese and yoghurts coming out of your ears, packed lunch option, afternoon tea and cake and you can drink your own wine at din...
