Les Deux Alpes
Les Deux Alpes is a true playground for the mountain lovers! It is located at the heart of the Oisans region of the French Alps, at the point where the Northern and Southern Alps meet. Situated on the doorstep of the Ecrins National Park the resort is renowned for its stunning scenery and endless sporting opportunities for visitors. Les Deux Alpes sits at an altitude of 1650m and is surrounded by glaciers, including the largest skiable glacier in Europe, stretching to the dizzying height of 3600m. This high altitude destination is best known for its winter sports; boasting a huge ski area, vibrant après ski and one of Europe’s best snowpark. However the summer at Les Deux Alpes shouldn’t be over looked; from June until September Les Deux Alpes becomes a haven for mountain bikers, hikers and summer skiers. There is no end to the various adrenaline filled sports and exciting new adventures you can take part in when in Les Deux Alpes.
Les Deux Alps takes its name from the twin villages of Venosc and Mont de Lan which make up the resort they are linked by a 2km strip of road which is lined with vibrant hotels and bars. The area has officially been a ski resort since 1925 making it France’s second oldest resort (after Chamonix) and there has been quite a bit of development over that time. Whilst much of the resort is purpose built it has generally managed to retain much of its charm. In the last ten years the lift company has also been buying up run down properties and tastefully renovating them which has all helped to create a very pleasant environment. Les Deux Alps is also a proper party town with a really energetic atmosphere and a wealth of bars and clubs. There are a number of regular events passing through which help keep things entertaining and Les Deux Alps is generally considered as a top contender for best nightlife in the Alps.
UCPA Les Deux Alpes is located in the village of Venosc which has more character than the Mont de Lan as well as most of the bars and shops and less of the traffic. The centre is in a fabulous location just a couple of minutes walk from the town centre. The centre is one of the smaller UCPA centres sleeping 168 people. It has 4-6 person rooms and a small number of private twin room available for an extra charge when booking. It is a large wood and stone traditional chalet which has all the usual UCPA services including a restaurant, bar, social areas and games room. The restaurant is of particular note with a stunning terrace overlooking the Ecrins National Park. Plus it also has a sauna and jacuzzi for those that need a bit of pampering after a hard day on the hill!
