Arc 1600 S

Action Outdoors unfortunately only have time to offer 1 date in 2011 (too many other locations) especially as it is the only location offering Paragliding. However, we have made sure that we have picked a beautiful, hot alpine week - 31st July. This is simply to bring the English speaking nationalities together to help the UCPA instructors and staff. The dates are Sunday - Saturday.

Resort

Arc 1600 is as amazing in the summer as it is in the winter. The centre is located high above the Tarentaise Valley, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park, and offers some fantastic biking, walking, paraponting and rafting. Located in the heart of a forest, it is also possible to find time to relax away from the hussle and bussle of the centre or simply chill in their outside pool.

Town Centre

Summary
Les Arcs is very much a purpose built ski area, with the emphasis on convenience of skiing which also works well with the summer program. Les Arcs is made up of several villages, Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 2000 and Arc 1950. They are fairly easy to get between either by bike, walking or the resort bus.

History
Les Arcs was one of France's great new areas developed during the boom years of the 1960s. Ex-Olympic champion Emile Allais lent his name to the project and the first village of Arc 1600 opened in 1968. Les Arcs has come a long way since then. In 2006, the 200 passenger, double decker ski lift ‘Paradiski’ was opened to link the resorts of Les Arcs & La Plagne.

Nightlife
Les Arcs is not famous for its night life, fortunately the UCPA centre is big enough that it has a real party vibe already. Outside of the UCPA try Apokalypse and L'Igloo at ARC 1800, Chalet de Luigi at 1950 has a nightclub that is building a reputation as the best in the resort.

Other Things To Do
Swimming pool, hiking,  tennis, volleyball and badminton courts

UCPA Les Arcs Summer

Introduction

Les Arcs UCPA is located at 1750, right on the mountainside! The centre is one of the biggest taking 460 people in rooms of 4. There is a great vibe throughout the centre, with the 3 dining rooms, 3 separate bars and nightclub all adding to the atmosphere. The rooms are all very simple - sleeping 4 in bunk beds, with shower and toilet facilities on each floor.

Food description

The food is served buffet style each day. Breakfast is yogurts, cereals, fruit juice, coffee and bread - don't be surprised to see that the coffee, tea or hot chocolate is taken French style - a soup bowl !

Typically lunch is a DIY picnic made up at breakfast time (great choice of breads, meats, cheeses, pasta, salad, fruit, sweets etc). The picnic lunch means maximum time on the mountains without spending a fortune on expensive mountain side restaurants.

Dinner is a 4 course buffet - typically a salad bar style starter, choice of 3 or 4 main courses - most often including fish, cheese selection, fruit, dessert and ice-cream freezer.

Any special dietry requirements should be made known to reception staff at check-in. Generally vegetarians will find a wide enough choice within the buffet.

Entertainment

The UCPA staff lay on an entertainment program each week.  It's certainly not Butlins and there is no pressure to take part - all quite low key. Typical program would include stretching in the early evening, crepe making, quiz, sketch evening, karaoke and some evenings a live band.

Equally in the town there is a great selection of bars & nightclubs to suit all tastes.

History

UCPA is more than 40 years old, and was originally set-up by the French government to encourage young people to enjoy the outdoors. It is now a "not for profit" organisation with all profits being put back into refurbishing the centres.

The ethos of sport is still first on the agenda, but the instructors and centre staff don't forget that it is still your holiday.
