Chamonix

Chamonix offers some of the best skiing in Europe combined with a vibrant and lively town. Click on "Resort", "Town Centre" and "Accommodation" tabs below for full details of the ski area and resort or check the quick facts on the right.

The "Dates and Prices" tab shows ski and snowboard courses available on specific dates shown. Not all courses are available on all dates, if you can't find what you are looking for, you may need to scroll to a different date or contact us.

Summary
Chamonix is far more of a town than the vast majority of ski villages. It is an all year round resort, with just as many visitors in the summer as winter. It offers a bowling alley, a small movie theatre, an indoor rock climbing gym and plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from with live music being played somewhere every night of the week. The static population is about 15,000. 15% English speaking, 15% Swedish speaking. During peak season the town hosts up to 45,000 visitors.

History
Until the 1700's Chamonix was a small rural village, cut off for most of the year with snow. It became a popular destination in the early 1800's with the advent of mountaineering and Victorian exploration. It is now almost wholly dependent on tourism with winter & summer being equally popular.

Nightlife
Chamonix is a thriving and vibrant town with lots going on for après-ski as well as late into the night fun.

Our favorite bars…

Chambre Neuf - wild après ski with live music most every night. Chambre Neuf is very Scandanavian with an excellent value -for-money lunch menu. It is located just opposite the train station.

Café Terrasse – A two story bar which hosts good bands on the main floor and has an excellent wood panelled upstairs bar with views over the main square in town and lovely views of Mont Blanc

The Jeckyll – a pretty chilled, laid back bar that is a good place to watch rugby and listen to live music.

MBC – lively micro brewery, Canadian influenced. They host live music every Friday night and offer, great home brew, burgers, nachos and other types of North American food. It’s located close to the ice rink. www.mbchx.com

La Cantina – lively night club, pretty local scene. They host a variety of DJs. Located close to the Super U in town. www.cantina.fr

Le Garage – highly cheesy nightclub that is open till the wee hours of the morning. Located close to Aiguille du Midi lift.

Les Choucas-if you are looking to extend your partying, Les Choucas is one of the only bars that has a license to stay open until 4am. They offer live music most weekends and a great DJs late at night.

Lots, lots more bars in town to suit all tastes; plan your après-ski carefully around the various happy hours!

Course Description

The 3 Day Performance course is essentially our All Mountain Performance course jammed into 2.5 days. All Mountain Performance is the original course in the Inspired to Ski programme and still the most popular. Why? Because the course focuses on developing all-round performance, on all slopes and in all conditions at your level. You'll ski in a group with an Inspired to Ski trainer for 3 hours a day (5 days) deceloping and exploring the techniques required to ski all the mountain. It's a great way to experience good, sound, quality instruction, enjoying your skiing and learning how best to cope with conditions that may scare, inhibit or challenge you in a relaxing, friendly environment.

Liftpasses and ski equipment are not included in the package prices. Some can be pre-booked.

Levels

All Mountain Performance is aimed at levels 3-6. Please check there is a course running for your exact level before booking. You will be given the opportunity to see full description on the booking form, but essentially:-

· Level 3 - Blues and easy red runs

· Level 4 - Red runs and easy black runs

· Level 5 - Black runs and off piste, picking route carefully

· Level 6 - Confident anywhere, any conditions, looking for more challenges

Itinerary

Essentially this course includes 5 sessions of 3 hours each : The first 2 days are "full days" with 2 sessions on each day and the last day has just 1 session in the morning. Leaving you free to ski for the afternoon or leave to get to the airport if you're on a tight schedule.
Welcome meeting (day prior to start of course): Our instructors will organise an optional welcome meeting on the evening of your arrival in resort. This is a chance for us to let you know all about the course ahead, the snow, weather conditions, to arrange the groups for the first day, to recommend ski equipment if you are hiring and for you to ask any questions.
Feedback and Video Evenings: Most evenings, except on any days off or travel days we provide an optional, informal session that allows us to clarify the days activities, possibly revise the course to fit individual needs and look through any video footage. These sessions are a huge help to learning and great fun over a drink or two. Very informal, not optional but a real bonus.

Moving levels during the course: We try to encourage movement between groups during the course if necessary. So if you are looking for greater challenges or would like to take it easier we have that flexibility. We ask you to make sure you speak to your instructor or the course leader as soon as possible if you feel you are not in the correct group or wish to move groups

You will get a detailed itinerary e-mailed to you a few weeks before your departure date, you will also be able to log-in to your holiday and see the details here too.

To help your general planning:-

UCPA Check-In – varies slightly from centre to centre, but generally is from 17:00 hours Sat. If you arrive after reception has closed you’ll find an envelope addressed to you with room codes and all the details you need. If you arrive earlier it is possible to drop off your bags at most of the centres, allowing you to explore the local town.

UCPA Check-Out – is on Saturday, you need have returned all equipment and clear out your room by 14:00 latest.

Coach Journey London to Resort – Leaves London Victoria Friday evening at 18:00 and arrives in resort Sat morning / lunchtime depending upon destination.

Coach Journey Resort to London – Leaves resort Sat afternoon / evening (depending upon resort) and arrives back in London mid morning Sunday.Don’t worry about the times – you will be sent an exact schedule well before departure.

Once you have entered all your details you will be able to pay, either for yourself or also for other people in your group if you wish.

We accept payment via most major cards. There is no charge to use a debit card (eg Maestro, Solo, Visa Debit), however we do have to pass on the 2.5% surcharge that the banks charge for credit cards.

We cannot accept payment via cheques or bank transfers, unless you have already arranged this with us.

Up to 8 weeks before travel you can just pay a deposit. The balance is due at 8 weeks before. We will e-mail you a reminder, but it is your responsibility to make sure you pay it on time.
