Alpine Ski Instruction

Want to improve your ski level? Learn some new ski techniques? Find the best runs? Enjoy the best conditions? If so then one of our UCPA all-inclusive ski holidays is most definitely the answer.

Level

There are 5 different levels of ski instruction groups; beginner, improver, intermediate, advanced and expert. So whether you have never skied before or have grown up skiing or perhaps done a few seasons there is a level perfect for you. When you check-in you will be asked about your level and previous ski experience. On the first day the ski instructors "hamonise" the groups to make sure everyone is in the correct group for their level. The advantage of skiing with a group at a similar level is huge - everyone is learning the same things at the same speed thus there is minimal waiting around and a natural support network around you.

Course

There are two types of course:

Half Time (12 Hrs)

This allows you to spend 4 or 5 half day sessions with your instructor, but still allows plenty of time for practice either on your own, with your group or perhaps with friends who have been skiing in a group of a different level.

Full Time (23 Hrs)

You will have 8 or 9 half day sessions with your instructor, so this really maximises your time to improve. You'll still have free ski time at the end of each day and on Sunday & Saturday to ski with friends, practice or just relax. This is a great option for people who are travelling alone.

Teaching Style

The teaching certainly isn't like the typical 1 or 2hr private lessons you may have experienced before. You have the same instructor and group all week and you spend much more time together so the learning is less less formal, more relaxed and more fun. Of course there will be some formal teaching, practicing and perfecting, but it's less intense and there is plenty of time to explore the mountain.

Itinerary

Will vary from resort to resort - typically:

  • Saturday - Arrival day, check in & meet other participants
  • Sunday - Collect ski equipment early morning, free skiing day (complete beginners have a 1/2 day lesson in the afternoon)
  • Mon - Fri - Practice skiing in groups with your instructor. Normally Wednesday is just a 1/2 day of instruction.
  • Saturday - Departure day, ski till lunchtime, enjoy a lunch, clear your room & say good bye (till the next time)

Social

One of the nicest things about a UCPA holiday is the social aspect - it's a great way to meet new people through sharing good sporting times together. Whether you travel by yourself or with friends you're sure to make some great new friends throughout the week.

Resort

Not all resorts offer both half & full time instruction - check out the Dates & Prices tab to see what is available where.

Whether you choose from half time instruction or full time instruction and regardless of your level you'll be with a great bunch of like minded people and with one of the best instructors on the mountain.

Les Arcs |

Firstly I would definitely recommend Action Outdoors. This is the 5th ski holiday I have been with them and they have always been very helpful even when I have had to change details of members of my party or cancel a person's booking who couldn't go.

La Plagne |

I went to La Plagne in jan on a solo holiday. I was a bit nervous about meeting a load of strangers and was my first time skiing too! Well I needn't have worried. Keryn our rep made us feel really welcome and brought us all together. The UCPA centre was fab. Clean, warm and great food. The views up the piste were just gorgeous. I could not fault the holiday at all. Well organised, safe and loads of fun. I would definitely book through action outdoors again. Thanks guys. I've a new love for skiing :-)

Tignes |

I spent the New year in Tignes at the UCPA and had an amazing time. It was my first time at UCPA but do enamoured that I immediately booked a second trip for February.

Serre Chevalier | Ski Full Time Instruction

I went to Serre Chevalier in February. The centre was good, pleasant bar area and reasonably sized double rooms. The instructors weekly jump show into the swimming pool was a highlight.

Tignes |

I recently stayed at the Tignes (Val Claret) UCPA centre and had the best weeks skiing ever. I booked through the Action Outdoors website which was pretty straight forward. This was my first time in a UCPA centre and I was travelling with my girlfriend and four friends – a mix of skiers and boarders ranging in experience from complete beginner to ex-seasonaires. On arrival after a long coach journey we were greeted by a cheerful and  welcoming team at the UCPA centre who gave us the lowdown on the arrival procedures. The centre was extremely well organised and helpful staff made the task of checking in/booking onto lessons/collecting lift pass and equipment so much easier than I have experienced in any other resort.

Testimonials

Read what our clients say about us

  • Our guide Cyril was absolutely amazing and found us fresh powder tree runs all day, without a hike, when it hadn’t snowed for 15 days
    Oliver P
  • It’s not just a ski trip, it’s a chance to experience another way of life. I can drink coffee by the bowlful, which feels SO right, practise my rusty French as much I like and eat great food.
    Matt J
  • A la Carte week - Lessons were good. I went to a few that I thought would benefit me, off-piste and freestyle. The instructors spoke decent enough English and you really learnt as much as you wanted to.
    Ron H
  • UCPA is a totally unique set-up, providing both a top-level skiing service and a wonderful place to relax and enjoy yourself.
    Richard J
  • UCPA provides all the equipment you need for a week of skiing or snowboarding and the lessons are fantastic for all levels, from complete beginner to the most impressive of off-piste daredevils!
    Elliot B
  • It’s hard not to sound like a fanatic about the whole thing, but I’ve vowed to go to UCPA on every ski holiday I ever take in future. You can’t argue with paying half the price of a normal trip, and getting twice as much!
    Oliver P
  • Most centers are “ski-in” and the nearest lift is only 100m away. They are almost all in a town centre for easy drinking access. Some are further out but cheaper as a result.
    Anna R
  • I snowboard at the moderate/expert level, but my boyfriend doesn’t have to get bored waiting for me to head across the flats because he’s high up in the mountains remembering how to use transceivers with the extreme expert ski group.
