Level

Read the descriptions carefully. Each course has a prerequisite for previous experience required. This is for your safety and enjoyment. UCPA may require you to change course if they feel you don't have enough experience or the correct level of fitness for the course.

Level 1 - Advanced piste skier, some off piste experience, new to ski touring. Ideal course as an introduction - available as a week or as a weekend.

Level 2 - Expert level skier, able to ski all types of snow, with some experience of ski touring  - comfortable with around 800m height climb.

Level 3 - Expert level skier, good experience of ski touring, able to ski all snow types with rucksack on back. Good level of fitness.

Level 4 - Excellent level skier, competent ski tourer and alpiniste at a very good level of fitness.

Course

At the introductory level more time will be spent on developing the techniques and skills needed to become a good ski tourer. As you progress through the levels both your speed and technique will improve and the week becomes more about exploring with a guide than being introduced to new skills.

Les Arcs |

Firstly I would definitely recommend Action Outdoors. This is the 5th ski holiday I have been with them and they have always been very helpful even when I have had to change details of members of my party or cancel a person's booking who couldn't go.

La Plagne |

I went to La Plagne in jan on a solo holiday. I was a bit nervous about meeting a load of strangers and was my first time skiing too! Well I needn't have worried. Keryn our rep made us feel really welcome and brought us all together. The UCPA centre was fab. Clean, warm and great food. The views up the piste were just gorgeous. I could not fault the holiday at all. Well organised, safe and loads of fun. I would definitely book through action outdoors again. Thanks guys. I've a new love for skiing :-)

Tignes |

I spent the New year in Tignes at the UCPA and had an amazing time. It was my first time at UCPA but do enamoured that I immediately booked a second trip for February.

Serre Chevalier | Ski Full Time Instruction

I went to Serre Chevalier in February. The centre was good, pleasant bar area and reasonably sized double rooms. The instructors weekly jump show into the swimming pool was a highlight.

Tignes |

I recently stayed at the Tignes (Val Claret) UCPA centre and had the best weeks skiing ever. I booked through the Action Outdoors website which was pretty straight forward. This was my first time in a UCPA centre and I was travelling with my girlfriend and four friends – a mix of skiers and boarders ranging in experience from complete beginner to ex-seasonaires. On arrival after a long coach journey we were greeted by a cheerful and  welcoming team at the UCPA centre who gave us the lowdown on the arrival procedures. The centre was extremely well organised and helpful staff made the task of checking in/booking onto lessons/collecting lift pass and equipment so much easier than I have experienced in any other resort.

  • The best thing about this holiday was the people I met! Everyone loved skiing/snowboarding/being outdoors, so we had a lot in common already.

  • A la Carte week - Lessons were good. I went to a few that I thought would benefit me, off-piste and freestyle. The instructors spoke decent enough English and you really learnt as much as you wanted to.

  • What I hadn’t realised from my internet research was how brilliant the non-skiing experience in the UCPA centre itself would be – and that was what really made the holiday for me...
    Oliver P
  • We were always encouraged to push ourselves, quite often going off-piste and attempting things we wouldn’t have previously felt capable of.
    Mary T
  • Most centers are “ski-in” and the nearest lift is only 100m away. They are almost all in a town centre for easy drinking access. Some are further out but cheaper as a result.
    Anna R
  • I snowboard at the moderate/expert level, but my boyfriend doesn’t have to get bored waiting for me to head across the flats because he’s high up in the mountains remembering how to use transceivers with the extreme expert ski group.
    Amelia S
  • Skiing and snowboarding has always come across as a costly exercise with the expense of chalets, instruction, food and lift passes it was a sport which was beyond my means, and that is what is best about...

  • All in all, I can’t recommend UCPA highly enough. It’s the best snow experience you’ll have – guaranteed!
