Lacanau offers a huge array of terrain to explore on horse back - within a morning you can wonder through the forest trails jumping over fallen trees before arriving at the beach for a gallop along the shoreline, sit by the lake side and picnic watching your room mates learn to sail before heading back over the moorland to the centre for a game of Horse ball. The course is run from UCPA Lacanau
The stables at Lacanau are not owned by UCPA but have been offering horse riding courses for us since the centre opened many moons ago. The horses are carefully selected and trained under the saddle with the stables offering a huge range of ponies and horses suitable for beginners through to the experienced rider. You can visit the Lacanau Equipassion website at www.lacanau-equipassion.fr which will allow you to see some of the horses available for you during your week but it is in French.
Beginners will be introduced to basic riding skills such as taking the horse into trot and canter on the correct rein within the school environment. However you will also be able to explore the local area and experience the joy of riding along the beach. You will no doubt play a few games of horse ball to put your learning into practice, making sure that your horse goes exactly where you need him too. You will also have the opportunity at grooming and mucking out if you want, all necessary skills!
If you have ridden before you will be able to practice and perfect your technique within the school or head out and explore - it really is your week. You will be grouped with others according to your ability level. The game of horseball is taking off within the UK, something that the school specialises in so why not learn as much as you can from the owners and represent your club back home!
