| Who are Action-Outdoors? | ||
| action- outdoors has been set up by Mark Gillis and David Robertson. We wanted to create a site where we could reliably find the kind of holidays we like to go on.The founders, Mark Gillis and David Robertson, have for many years organised small group holidays. It started off with groups of 6-8 and eventually grew into having multiple chalets taking 30 friends, and then friends of friends..... | ||
| I've been with UCPA before - can I book direct? | ||
|
It is still possible to book direct with
UCPA, but here's why you should book with Action Outdoors:- |
||
| I'm a good skier already - why should I pay for lessons? | ||
| The lessons are already included in your holiday. Unfortunately it is not possible to offer any reductions without lessons. However if you are already a good skier or boarder then you will find the lessons more akin to guiding / coaching. You will find the standard at UCPA really quite high - in the best groups many of your fellow holiday makers may already have been "saisoniers". If you really want to challenge your skiing then why not book one of our off-piste courses. | ||
| Our group is all different abilities - will we be separated ? | ||
| To allow the groups to operate well together then it's important that everyone is at a similar standard. The instructors will of course make every effort to keep groups of friends together, and anyway the groups usually meet up at lunchtimes and at the end of the lessons. You can, of course, opt out of a few sessions to do your own thing. | ||
| We do have some multi-activity holidays where you can ski and board. If you want to change whilst on holiday our centres will do their best to accommodate your change, however it is dependant upon availability of equipment & staff. | ||
| Why are these holidays so much cheaper than other operators? | ||
| Our main partner, UCPA, is an organisation dedicated to providing opportunities for young people to experience the outdoors. Action Outdoors has negotiated excellent travel deals and keeps it's costs down by not having shops or paying for expensive agents. The accommodation is not 5* but it is certainly clean, comfortable and you will not be disappointed in the food provided. The quality of the activity, instruction and equipment is second to none. | ||
| I've got my own equipment - should I bring it ? | ||
| You are certainly welcome to. If you book travel with Action Outdoors there is no extra charge for carrying skis or boards. Beware however as most of the budget airlines now charge £15 each way for skis ! The equipment provided is of good standard and is well maintained so there is no need to take your own. There is a good range of boots, but of course, if you have your own so much the better. | ||
| Check your holiday e-mail confirmation for a recommended kit list. In general all specialist equipment is provided by the centre.. | ||
| Are helmets provided for skiers / boarders ? | ||
| No. Many skiers are now wearing helmets, but we feel that this is a purely personal choice. If you want to wear one you may buy or rent one in the resort. | ||
| What type of insurance should I have? | ||
| By booking an activity holiday with us you are insured only while under the direct supervision of an instructor. You are not covered while skiing or boarding on your own or for medical care. You are also not covered for delays, theft or other problems during the journey. It is highly recommended that you take an insurance policy to cover all typical risks. | ||
